Basic Wilderness Life Support™
Basic Wilderness Life Support TM is a medical certification through the University of Utah School of Medicine. It is valid for three years. It is great for anyone who spends time in the outdoors- both those with prior medical training and without. This course covers the following topics:
Patient Assessment
How to Stop Bleeding and improvise tourniquets
How to handle bears and mountain lions
Snake bites
Lightning
Flash Floods
How to escape a sinking car
Heat and Cold Injuries
Legal Considerations
How to use an epi pen
Drowning rescue
Avalanches
Planning and using a basic medical kit
Finding water and treating it
Special considerations for women- recognizing predators, self defense tactics, human trafficking
You can choose to attend either the live Zoom lecture or receive the recording to watch any time. BWLS also includes lifetime access to the textbook and podcasts.
Pass the final exam (>70% correct) in order to receive the official certificate.
